Condition: Fully Restored (Like New)
The bench arrived in our workshop as basically two irn casted ends, the wooden seat had almost disappeared with rot and not being looked after or maintained. The bench was originally part of the Bridlington (East Coast) seaside resort revamp programme in 1992 (We have a plaque with the Bridlington logo and date).
We have had the cast iron ends sand-blasted and then powder coated to ensure they cannot rust in the future and will be here in 100 years' time. We chose red as the colour so that it would stand out in a garden or in front of a pavement cafe or beer garden at a pub.
We chose a hardwood for the seat base and measured it to accommodate at least 2 people if not 3. Each of the wooden slat ends has been sculpted to fit into the cast iron ends (each slat is a different sized end). The wood was then given a number of coats of varnish (rubbed down between each coat) so that if placed outside in all weathers, it will last a considerably long time. The varnish was applied to give that rich, golden, glow – and as can be seen from the photographs enhances the red cast iron ends. You can see form the photographs (side view) that the wooden seat is styled in a curve to match the cast iron ends, this provides a very comfortable seat that would fit most people's bottoms for a cosy sit!
This bench is extremely heavy, but very sturdy and ideal for a garden or public place.
NOTE: The feet have small bobbles on the bottom so that this could sit into concrete to prevent it being easily removed (stolen). This is a quality item that anyone would be proud to have in their garden, beer garden or pavement cafe.
